The Youth Booth has been named a finalist in the 2025 Local Government Week Awards for delivering one of New South Wales’ most outstanding Youth Week programs. The nomination places Glen Innes Severn Council in the spotlight for its efforts to support and engage young people across the region.
The finalist recognition comes after the success of Youth Week 2025, which featured a diverse range of events tailored for young people living in Glen Innes Severn. Activities included a gaming night, movie night, inflatable fun day and a guided cultural walk at The Willows — all planned and delivered with direct involvement from local youth and The Youth Booth team.
Acting Mayor Carol Sparks described the nomination as a proud moment for the community.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to see The Youth Booth receive this recognition. As someone who was involved in helping establish the service, it’s been wonderful to watch it grow into a vital space where young people from our rural community can connect and support each other,” Cr Sparks said.
“This nomination recognises the hard work of The Youth Booth team and their commitment to creating programs that matter to our young people. It is a well-deserved acknowledgment of their efforts.”
Youth Week activities were held at various locations throughout the region, aiming to promote connection, cultural learning, and leadership opportunities for local youth. The program not only offered engaging events, but also fostered skill development and a sense of belonging.
The Youth Booth has been nominated for the category of Best Small Council with the Most Outstanding Youth Week Program.
The initiative was supported through funding from the NSW Department of Communities and Justice and Glen Innes Severn Council.
Winners of the 2025 Local Government Week Awards will be announced at the official Awards Evening in August, hosted in Sydney and managed by Local Government NSW as part of Local Government Week celebrations.
