The Glen Innes RSL Sub Branch is entering a new chapter, with incoming President Lew Crothers introducing himself to members, veterans and the wider community, and sharing a practical, community-focused vision for the years ahead.

4765 (1)Lew said it’s a genuine privilege to take on the role and continue the legacy of service upheld by local veterans and their families.

“The sacrifice of veterans and their families is immense and enduring,” he said. “It’s important we keep the ANZAC legacy strong — to honour those who came before us and support those who will, one day, return home to Glen Innes after their service.”

He will be supported by a new executive team of committed volunteers:-

  • Senior Vice President: Gail Turnbull
  • Honorary Treasurer: Cassandra Slater
  • Honorary Secretary: To be confirmed (supported by Peter Brown)
  • Vice Presidents: Kyle Slater, Mick Wilson, James Tattersall, Rod Gair, Chris Lawrence, Victor Tracey and Andrew Hutton

Lew also paid tribute to outgoing executive members Erica Roy, Grant Durich and Judy Durich for the time, energy and care they’ve given to the Sub Branch and the veteran community.

“They’ve done a tremendous job and we’re grateful to carry their work forward,” he said. He also acknowledged the contribution of former President Gail Turnbull, who will continue on as Senior Vice President. “Gail has shown real dedication to both the Sub Branch and the community, even through challenging times,” Lew said. “We’re very fortunate to still have her involved, bringing experience and continuity to the new team.”

Looking ahead, Lew said his focus is simple — supporting veterans and their families.

That includes strengthening advocacy and welfare support, helping the community commemorate ANZAC Day and other important occasions in meaningful ways, and improving important local sites such as cenotaphs, memorials and RSL-linked facilities.

Projects already on the radar include the ANZAC Park Gates, Emmaville RSL Park play equipment, and the Pinkett and Wellingrove War Memorial Halls.

The Sub Branch is also keen to continue building its relationship with the Glen Innes Services Club, working together to support veterans and the broader community.

Another key priority is making sure the Sub Branch is in good shape for future generations. “We want to make sure we’re ready to support the next generation of veterans and their families,” Lew said.

Community members are encouraged to get involved — whether as veterans, family members, affiliates or auxiliary supporters.

A social luncheon will be held at the Glen Innes Services Club on Sunday, April 5 at 11:30am, with everyone welcome. Throughout April, the Sub Branch will also run an ANZAC fundraising raffle at the Services Club and Woolworths, with proceeds going toward local veteran support and commemorations.

Lew encouraged locals to keep an eye on social media and the Glen Innes News for updates on ANZAC Day events and future activities.

“Courage,” he said. “Lest We Forget.”
