Dawn was sometime off when we arrived at the Glen Innes cemetery at about 4:30am on ANZAC Day to remember and pay our respects to all those who served in protecting our great country. There was an autumn chill in the air, and the rum and coffee being served near the fire was welcome indeed! Even this early in the morning, parking was quite a distance away. Once again, the Dawn Service was exceptionally well attended by people of all ages. The Royal Australian Air Force’s Number 76 Squadron was represented by their Operations Officer, Flying Office Jacky Chan, and…
Glen Innes marked ANZAC Day this year with what many described as the largest and most heartfelt turnout in recent memory. From the early morning stillness of the Dawn Service at the cemetery, through to the march along Grey Street and the commemorative service in ANZAC Park, the community gathered in strong numbers to honour those who served and sacrificed. The 11am flyover provided a fitting aerial tribute, drawing eyes skyward in a shared moment of reflection. The Dawn Service drew a quiet but substantial crowd, setting a respectful tone for the day. As the morning progressed, Grey Street filled…
The Glen Innes RSL Sub Branch is entering a new chapter, with incoming President Lew Crothers introducing himself to members, veterans and the wider community, and sharing a practical, community-focused vision for the years ahead. Lew said it’s a genuine privilege to take on the role and continue the legacy of service upheld by local veterans and their families. “The sacrifice of veterans and their families is immense and enduring,” he said. “It’s important we keep the ANZAC legacy strong — to honour those who came before us and support those who will, one day, return home to Glen Innes…

On Sunday morning, members of the Glen Innes community gathered at Anzac Park to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Korean War. Despite cold winds and grey skies, the rain held off as veterans, school representatives, and local residents came together to honour those who served in the conflict—particularly the Australians who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Flags in the memorial park were flown at half mast in tribute. Several wreaths were laid during the service, which was organised by the Glen Innes RSL Sub-Branch.

The service will be held at the Anzac Park Cenotaph on West Avenue, commencing at 11.30am. Organisers say the event will be an opportunity for the community to reflect on the courage and sacrifice of those who served in what is often called the “Forgotten War.” “Let us come together to honour the sacrifices and bravery of our Korean War veterans.
