Midwives, families and community members gathered at the ANZAC Park playground on Tuesday 5 May to celebrate International Day of the Midwife, while also marking two years of the Glen Innes Midwifery Group Practice (MGP). The occasion provided an opportunity to reflect on the role midwives play in supporting women and families, and to acknowledge the growth of a model of care that places continuity, trust and connection at its centre. Glen Innes Severn Council has taken a significant step toward shaping the region’s long-term future, endorsing the draft Glen Innes Highlands Precincts and Activation Framework for public exhibition. At its Ordinary Meeting on 23 April 2026, Council resolved to place the draft Framework on exhibition by the end of May, following amendments made during the meeting. Glen Innes Severn Council Mayor Margot Davis, this week welcomed the opening of the first local Computed Tomography (CT) scanning facility, marking a significant step forward in healthcare access, liveability and economic development for Glen Innes and the surrounding area. The facility, delivered by New England CT Pty Ltd, a locally owned family business dedicated to improving regional healthcare, commenced operations last week following Council’s strategic decision at its Extraordinary Meeting in March 2025 to approve the sale of 146 Church Street and part of 148 Church Street, the former Essential Energy site. Dear Editor, A previous Glen Innes Severn Council purchased the Quarry from Wayne McCarthy in February 2015 with a $970,000 NSW government grant (Glen Innes Examiner (11/2/2015). As ratepayers we were told that it was going to secure the town’s  water supply as an off stream water storage with a capacity that is 16% larger than the Beardy Weir. The Quarry (source GISC) was supposed provide 2 1/2 years supply once the Beardy Waters stopped flowing. Why then is the Glen Innes township  currently on Level 3 water restrictions?
