Lotus Roar at Lions Park

About 20 brave locals took on the cool breeze, to have their hearts warmed, as they met the Queensland Lotus Club. The club returned briefly to Glen Innes  for a 'pit stop' at Lions Park,  and parked along East Avenue. The group has been visiting our area since 2018. This year 73 proud owners and 40 vehicles toured the area from Glen Innes, Inverell, Emmaville and Tenterfield. Cars from 1960s to present were in this gathering.

The original brickworks in Glen Innes were started by John Falconer Willis and W Newman in about 1872 at Bell Rock, on what was formerly known as the Common, where they quarried with shovels, and pugged and moulded the bricks by hand. ‘Commons’ on the outskirts of towns were originally set aside in the 19th and 20th centuries so that people who lived in a town had somewhere to graze their stock -mostly milking cows, and horses for transport. Health Precautions Around Feral Pigs

Following increasing feral pig numbers across the Northern Tablelands, land managers and others working around pigs are encouraged to remain aware of potential animal and human health risks. NSW wildlife disease surveillance programs have identified exposure to Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV), brucellosis and leptospirosis in feral pigs. While the risk to the general public remains low, people working in agriculture and related industries may have a higher level of exposure. Glen Innes Severn remains a NSW Health designated area where free Japanese encephalitis (JE) vaccination is available for eligible people. FUNDING FLOWS IN FOR FIELD IMPROVEMENTS

Field maintenance at Glen Innes Rugby Park will soon be a lot easier with the Elks securing $108,000 in funding for an irrigation system. The funding was awarded to the club through the NSW Rugby World Cup Legacy program which is aimed at increasing inclusion and participation through improving infrastructure and facilities.
