Moylan Report

Moylan Report

If you want a quick read on the Government’s priorities, don’t wait for the Budget, just watch the rugby league transfer market. Right now, Canberra is happy to back tax free deals that see players like Jarome Luai head to Papua New Guinea on about $1.2 million a year. And fair enough, most of us would sign that contract in a heartbeat. But here’s the question doing the rounds in regional NSW; if it’s good enough for footy players, why isn’t it good enough for our healthcare workers? Because when those of us living in country communities ask for help…

letter to the Editor

To the Editor, What a marvellous idea of David Scott's to move the library to Dimmeys and the Council to the library.  It would be excellent for older people to shop and borrow your books in a more convenient atmosphere.  Also would be better for parking instead of using the Coles carpark for staff etc to park. Keep up the good work David. Norma Leamon, Glen Innes

First Sod turned for Hospital Redevelopment

First Sod turned for Hospital Redevelopment

A significant milestone in the future of local healthcare was marked on 6 April 2026, with a sod turning ceremony held at the rear of Glen Innes Hospital to formally commence the long-awaited redevelopment project. The event brought together health officials, community representatives, staff and supporters, all united in celebrating the transition from planning to construction after an extended period of anticipation. Mother’s Day Stall very successful

Mother’s Day Stall very successful

A warm show of community spirit greeted patients, staff and visitors at Glen Innes District Hospital on 6 April, as the United Hospital Auxiliary hosted its annual Mother’s Day stall. Set up just inside the main entrance, the stall proved another resounding success, raising approximately $2,000 to support the hospital’s ongoing needs. Shoppers were treated to an array of homemade delights, with 12 local cooks—drawn from the auxiliary and their circle of friends—contributing a generous spread of cakes, slices and biscuits. Alongside the baked goods, the table also featured homemade jams, soft toys and a raffle, offering something for everyone…

Midwives Celebrate Milestone and Community Care on International Day

Midwives Celebrate Milestone and Community Care on International Day

Midwives, families and community members gathered at the ANZAC Park playground on Tuesday 5 May to celebrate International Day of the Midwife, while also marking two years of the Glen Innes Midwifery Group Practice (MGP). The occasion provided an opportunity to reflect on the role midwives play in supporting women and families, and to acknowledge the growth of a model of care that places continuity, trust and connection at its centre. Over the past two years, the local MGP has supported 190 women through their pregnancy journeys, including four sets of twins. A total of 61 births have taken place…

Spurtles at the Ready

Spurtles at the Ready

There are many ways to test a community’s mettle—drought, council meetings, the price of diesel—but on the opening day of the Festival, Glen Innes faced its sternest trial yet: the Australian Celtic Festival Porridge Making Competition. Seven groups entered the arena, though one withdrew at the eleventh hour—reportedly after “careful consideration” of the local field, which is widely understood to mean they saw who else had brought oats and made a tactical retreat. That left six determined teams, split into two heats, each armed with their own ingredients, family pride, and what can only be described as an alarming number…
