The Minerama Fossicking, Gem & Jewellery Show will return to the Glen Innes Showgrounds from 7–9 March 2025. As one of the largest events on the Glen Innes calendar, Minerama attracts fossicking enthusiasts, gemstone collectors, and jewellery lovers from across the region.
Glen Innes Severn Council Mayor Margot Davis anticipates that this year’s event will be the biggest yet, with a record number of traders showcasing a wide array of gems, minerals, crystals, and jewellery.
“Minerama is one of the largest and most dynamic events of its kind in NSW, drawing families, collectors, and enthusiasts alike. It’s a vibrant celebration of Earth’s treasures—where visitors can unearth rare finds, immerse themselves in the world of gemstones, and engage in activities that captivate all ages,” Cr Davis said.
“As a flagship event in the Glen Innes Highlands, autumn provides the perfect backdrop for exploration. Whether you’re here for the day or making a weekend of it, Minerama offers a unique opportunity to experience the region’s rich geological heritage and welcoming community.”
This year, organisers have placed a strong emphasis on free children’s activities, supported by local businesses. Children under 16 can attend the event free of charge, with activities including rock crafting, badge making, face painting, and more. Parents can relax at the Rockhounds Rest Area next to the event ring.
The 2025 program will see the return of crowd favourites such as Jurassic Jack, the Base Zero climbing wall, and UNE Discovery Voyager. On Friday, 7 March, UNE Discovery will offer free educational sessions for local schools, followed by the Ask an Expert experience on Saturday, 8 March, where children can explore fossils and meteorites with Stargazing Adventures.
A new feature this year is the Centenary Pavilion, where the Glen Innes Mineral and Gem Club will provide daily demonstrations of cabochon polishing, gem cutting, and faceting. Visitors can check demonstration times on-site, purchase gem wash bags near the Bourke Street entrance, or participate in fossicking field trips and workshops throughout the weekend.
The Outside Trader area has been slightly relocated to accommodate a record number of traders, creating a safer and more seamless flow for visitors. Traders will offer a variety of items, including uncut rocks, opals, fossicking equipment, rare fossils, and unique jewellery pieces. Inside the pavilions, visitors will find an extensive selection of crystals, fine jewellery, and rare mineral specimens.
Beyond the Showgrounds, the gem fever will extend across the region. The Emmaville Mining Museum, located in the historic mining village of Emmaville, houses one of Australia’s largest mineral and gem collections. The museum features an impressive array of locally sourced and international specimens, historical mining equipment, and detailed exhibits on the region’s rich mining history. Visitors can learn about the town’s significant role in Australia’s tin mining industry.
The Makers Shed in Deepwater will host silversmithing workshops, allowing participants to craft their own unique jewellery pieces under expert guidance. The venue, known for its artisan crafts and creative workshops, also showcases a variety of handcrafted items, including locally made jewellery, sculptures, and artworks. These workshops provide an opportunity for visitors to gain hands-on experience and take home a personalised souvenir from their time in the Glen Innes Highlands.
