The Vegetable Creek MPS Emmaville Hospital Auxiliary has officially unveiled a new access ramp at “The Cottage” building, marking the completion of a three-year fundraising effort that raised $25,000 for the local health facility.
The new ramp, officially opened on Tuesday 5 August, will allow patients of Vegetable Creek Multi-Purpose Service (MPS) to more easily access the building and enjoy recreational activities away from the standard hospital environment. Importantly, the ramp is designed to accommodate not only wheelchair and walker users, but also patients in hospital beds.
Kylie Duddy, Health Service Manager at Vegetable Creek, and Toni Banham, President of the Auxiliary, cut the ribbon to officially open the ramp. They were joined by Kylie Whitford, District Manager at Hunter New England Local Health District along with a number of guests from near and far.
“This ramp is a testament to the incredible support of our community,” a spokesperson said. With a population of just 300–500 people, Emmaville residents raised an impressive $25,000 to make the project possible.
Thanks were extended to the local businesses that contributed to the ramp’s construction, offering products and services at discounted rates. These included Enzo’s Concreting, Allcrete, and Highlands Earthmoving and Fabrication.
The event also provided an opportunity to honour Vegetable Creek MPS staff for their decades of dedicated service. While not all listed staff could attend, those present were acknowledged by their peers and guests and presented with a certificate.
