Continued Agricultural Research Essential

Research Station’s Legacy Too Important to Lose For more than a century, the Glen Innes Agricultural Research Station has played a quiet but vital role in shaping the success of Glen Innes and the wider New England region, with impacts felt across Australia and beyond. Established under the former NSW Department of Agriculture, the Station delivered practical, locally relevant research that helped farmers overcome the unique challenges of the Northern Tablelands. Early graziers battled severe frosts, unreliable pastures and uncertain productivity. Through careful scientific work, the Station identified pasture species suited to the cold climate and developed grazing systems that…

Celebrity cook Matt Golinski returns to Glen Innes Show

The Show 100 years ago

From snippets sourced from the 1926 Glen Innes Examiner the Show was very different 100 years ago. ‘In Glen Innes shows have been held almost continuously since 1870, when in conjunction with Inverell the first carnival took place on the recreation ground at the back of the present Intermediate High School (now the Public School) -and the only shelter was that provided by tarpaulins. Shows were held alternately at Inverell and Glen Innes until 1877. Since then, the show society has acquired a ground of its own on which it has placed costly improvements while its operations have grown until…

Australia Day In Glen Innes Severn

Glen Innes Severn’s Australia Day celebrations began in true country style with a “breakfast of champions” at Red Range Hall, where the Red Range Hall Committee pulled off a near-miraculous loaves and fishes effort. Locals and visitors alike enjoyed barbecued sausage and egg, steak and onion sandwiches, with generously donated steak from Rangers Valley earning particular appreciation. Australia Day Ambassador Dr Clio Cresswell set the tone with a short but engaging address that proved even mathematics can entertain on a public holiday morning. Large crowd gathers at Red Range Celebrating Australia Day

Red Range Hall was literally bursting at the seams with a terrific crowd of locals and visitors gathered for an 8am breakfast, the first celebration of Australia Day for 2026 in the Glen Innes Severn Local Government Area. The local Red Range Hall Committee had set up an impressive display of milk cans and cream separators as well as  some examples of the first teat cups as a nod to the importance of the dairying industry to Red Ranges early history.  However, it was the alluring smell of the BBQ that drew the locals indoors.  Rangers Valley had generously supplied…
