The NSW State Government has announced plans to establish ten new refuges for women and children escaping domestic violence in regional areas, with Glen Innes among the selected locations. The refuges are part of the latest round of the government’s Core and Cluster program, which has received an $83.4 million investment. The Glen Innes leg of the New England Rail Trail project is now unlikely to go ahead, with the funding of $8.7 million having been cut by the state government Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD).
