Glen Innes Severn Council has announced a major milestone in the journey to bring the New England Rail Trail to fruition, with the signing of a licence agreement with NSW's Transport Holding Entity through its contractor, UGL. This agreement grants the Council access to the rail corridor, enabling critical survey and investigative work needed to progress the project. Glen Innes was host to the Retreat Caravan Owners Club over the last week. A total of 31 caravans and 61 visitors from NSW, Victoria, Queensland and even WA, gathered at the Showground for a week of social activities and exploration of the area. The group meet on a regular basis, usually three times per year, with a preference to spend their time in small country towns and rural areas. Glen Innes Severn Council has commissioned an independent, qualified arborist to conduct detailed assessments of local trees to enhance public safety and ensure the health of urban green spaces. This assessment has covered prominent areas across Glen Innes, including Church Street, the Main Centre, Centennial Parklands, Glen Innes Cemetery, King George Park, King Edward Park, Glen Innes Skate Park, Emmaville RSL Park, Veness Park, and ANZAC Park. The evaluation involved an in-depth review of 1,266 trees across these locations, with results now informing the Council's next steps.
