On Australia Day a free breakfast was held at the Pinkett Hall where over 150 people attended.

Later in the morning the Glen Innes & District Services Club hosted a free morning tea followed by the presentation of awards to local citizens and organisations who have made significant contributions to our local community.

A citizenship ceremony was also held where two new Australian Citizens were welcomed by the local community. All attendees were also invited to make an Australian citizenship pledge.

The Australia Day Ambassador this year was Peter Herbert who has had a long and significant career in the television industry and associated fields. Peter entertained the audience with anecdotes about his encounters with celebrities and what these have taught him over time.

Glen Innes Severn Council Australia Day Committe Chairperson, Jan Lemon, said “The field of nominees represented an overall considerable contribution to our community by a large number of individuals and organisations. The judges faced an enormous task to choose recipients, and wish to congratulate every nominee”.
