Brick Works Open Day
Like many regional towns growing with settlement Glen Innes had a need for fired bricks. The Willis family name gets a mention as brick makers in the 1870’s and it was the coming of the railway in 1884 that saw the consolidation of brick making in the district. A brick works was established at Bell Rock (at the end of Blue Hills Rd) where production reached 30,000 bricks per fortnight. Tennis
Tennis might be a summer sport but the Glen Innes & District Tennis Association is still very active over the winter months. Junior Hot Shots sessions are well underway for Term 2 - new players are always welcome so contact the club for more information about Junior programmes. Social tennis continues on Tuesday mornings from 9am and Saturday afternoons from 1pm - great tennis with a very friendly vibe with players of all abilities welcome. GLENRAC welcomes funding for Innovative Farming Forecaster Project
GLENRAC Inc has welcomed the recent announcement of more than $1.7 million in funding for Landcare programs across the Northern Tablelands under the NSW Government’s Landcare Enabling Program. As part of this investment, the New England Landcare Network has secured $830,899 to deliver its regional project, “Towards informed, integrative land and water management,” with GLENRAC playing a key role in project delivery. This funding will support the establishment of a Farming Forecaster weather monitoring network, an initiative designed to address a critical information gap for landholders and service providers across the region. NESSA Students Excel at Eisteddfod
Students from the New England Stage and Screen Academy (NESSA) are celebrating a wonderful run of success at this year’s Armidale Eisteddfod speech and drama competitions. Across a wide variety of events, every NESSA student achieved strong results, earning numerous awards including Highly Commended, Very Highly Commended, Third, Second, and First places. Demonstrating the strong ethos NESSA has built in just its second year, teachers and organisers alike praised the positive atmosphere amongst competitors. Walkers Pass Through Glen Innes Severn on Journey to Myall Creek
A small group of four walkers passed through the northern reaches of the Glen Innes Severn region this week as part of a 474-kilometre commemorative journey from Ballina to Myall Creek. The walk, known as Walk 4 Stolen Children, Land & Lives, aims to raise awareness of Australia's frontier conflicts and to honour those affected by frontier war massacres during the colonial period. A New Chapter for East Avenue Medical Centre
East Avenue Medical Centre is entering an exciting new chapter as the practice continues to grow and evolve to better serve the Glen Innes community and surrounding regions.
