Glen Innes Showground will be alive again this weekend with the Northern Rivers Cutting Horse Club conducting its round of the National Cutting Horse Association’s Australian championships. Competition starts on Friday and continues over the weekend. The local organizing committee has been loud with its praise for the golfers, prize donors and the Glen Innes community for their efforts which recently raised more than $10,000, with $8,000 presented at the Glen Innes Show to sHedway representatives for further work in applying the sHedway mental health program. The balance has been retained by the local committee to support next year’s fund raising golf event, the Beardy Shears at the 2026 Show and for other fundraising activities. Three talented players from local rugby team the Glen Innes Elks represented the Pacific Nomads at the Crescent Head 7s over the weekend. Sarah Byrne, Ash Richardson, and Tilly Mitchell all took the field for the Nomads and put in a strong performance, narrowly missing out on a place in the Women's Cup semi-final after a hard-fought 10-12 loss to four-time defending champions, Nelson Bay.
