One of Glen’s female superstars of local junior rugby is Lily Grieve. This weekend (14/15 December), she makes her debut for the NSW Waratahs U18 team in the girls’ Provincial Tri-Series in Sydney. Lily put a premiership in her pocket with the Glen Innes Elks last season and she is now taking her first steps in a career that Glen Innes residents will watch with excitement. Last Friday 29th November saw a match between Elks and RSL. The game got underway at the scheduled start of 5:00 but was shortened to a 16 over match in anticipation of bad light at the end of the day because of overcast conditions. Elks won the toss and chose to bat with Mitch Swift (9) and Michael Miller (33) putting on 48 runs in 6 overs in a handy opening start. Glen Innes’s own champion lawn bowler, Paul Jopson, has returned in triumph from the Australian National Titles held in Tweed Heads from 11-15th October.  As a member of the New South Wales team, he came away with a second in the men’s competition and with best performed state (men and women combined). Paul stated that it was a “totally awesome team event”, and he’s looking forward to the 2025 National Titles to be held in Tasmania.
