The gallery had a wonderful exhibition with Australian Summer. Now, we have a spectacular exhibition that opened on March 10th, ‘Absolutely Abstract’ and the only thing I can say is, it is absolutely spectacular! We have new exhibitors in both painting and pottery. There are very large entries that are interesting. The colours in all the artworks are amazing! Some of our regular exhibitors have tested themselves and worked outside their comfort zone with fabulous results. Our gala, scheduled for 8th March, was postponed due to the weather. Check out our Facebook page for updates www.facebook.com/gleninnesartgallery This exhibit runs until…
On Thursday 6th March Glen Innes Severn Council held a roundtable meeting to discuss community concerns about crime and vandalism that has affected several local businesses over recent months and years. The meeting was proposed in response to a petition that was signed by a large number of Glen Innes businesses and employees urging Council to install CCTV cameras throughout the Glen Innes CBD, allowing perpetrators to be identified and to provide evidence of crimes to assist with successful prosecution. The crimes have caused significant stress to business owners in addition to significant costs involved in repairing doors, windows and…

Trees played a major part in the development of our area – the term ‘blazing a trail’ literally meant carving marks into trees to indicate the best route over unknown terrain for horsemen or bullock wagons; as well, marked trees could indicate the perimeters of early holdings. Our present roads, though now much modified, generally followed the inevitable rough tracks. A leasehold system of property tenure was brought in here in 1848. As Sommerlad wrote in The Land of the Beardies in 1922: “Prior to 1847 the pastoral industry in this district in common with all districts ‘outside the boundaries…
It was a solid yarding at Tuesday’s sheep and lamb sale, with a total of 922 head penned. The majority of the offering presented in good condition, with well-covered sheep and lambs dominating the yard. Store types were in limited supply, and while all regular buyers were in attendance, competition for restocker lambs remained subdued. Heavyweight crossbred lambs (58kg+) led the market, reaching a top of $230 per head. Trade-weight crossbreds (50-57kg) held firm, ranging from $192.50 to $206 per head. Medium-weight lambs (45-50kg) with good cover made from $157.50 to $191 per head. Lighter, well-framed store crossbred lambs topped…
