Lions Youth Of The Year

Glen Innes Highlands Lioness Lions Club again hosted the Youth of the Year Public Speaking Competition. Students from Glen Innes High School submitted applications, similar in nature to applying for a job, and were then selected to proceed onto the Glen Innes final. A panel of judges conducted a 40 minute interview where the student’s general knowledge was tested by responding to matters associated with inspiring and empowering young people, addressing challenges such as youth crime and disengagement and adapting to create new opportunities for young people. Later in the day students competed in the public speaking component in front…

Colts Thrash Elks

Colts Thrash Elks

In last week's cricket fixture the Club Hotel Colts took on the Elks. The seasons previous encounter between these two had seen a scorebook controversy, with Brendan smith misinforming the players on the field how many runs where needed for a victory. This resulted in Colts getting the win, which funnily enough is the team Smithy plays for. Coincidence or something more nefarious? No one but Smithy will ever know but at any rate there was a bit of spice leading in to the game. Colts won their first toss of the year and chose to bat and for the…

Our History – Christmas

Our History – Christmas

Christmas Past – A time when Christmas was not so commercialized. And so many Christmas cards were exchanged – does anyone remember the Red Cross art union Christmas cards? When keeping in touch with distant friends & relatives at Christmas time was not so easy - long distance telephone calls, especially overseas, on Christmas Day had to be pre-booked and there was the dreaded interruption (seemingly far…
