Kindy 2025: A New Chapter Begins

Thursday 6th February 2025 was a momentous day for dozens of small children across the district, as they entered the world of big school for the first time with its promise of greater learning and lifelong friendships. With local schools ranging significantly in size, some children made up 50% of their two student Kindergarten class, while others in bigger schools joined one of two Kindergarten classes. Luckily our teachers are prepared for anything!

Do you remember your first day at school? We ran a quick survey of our own memories of that all-important day. Several remembered what they ate; somebody recalled the teacher emphasising that at little lunch students should only eat the snack, not the whole lunch; one poor kid vomited (later diagnosed as a bug, not the excitement) and another former Kindy starter wondered why all the other kids were crying. As schools have long observed, on Day 1 there are usually a few tears shed, but not so much by the students but by some of the new parents.

We invited schools to share photos of Kindergarten 2025. From our photo gallery you will see many bright little faces of children embarking on a new adventure, with the encouragement of their families and their teachers. As one school commented, reflecting the community’s shared hopes for this generation “We look forward to watching them grow and achieve many wonderful things throughout their schooling journey”.
