If you’re at all interested in reading or writing, you may be interested in the High Country Book Club, or the High Country Writer’s Club which currently run out of the Maker’s Shed in Deepwater. They both operate on the third Saturday of the month. The Book Club goes from 10-12 and each month a different designated book is discussed and reviewed. Residents across the Northern Tablelands are being encouraged to support a Parliamentary ePetition calling for changes to the Young Offenders Act. The petition, presented by Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson, follows concerns over recent increases in crimes committed by repeat offenders. Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan is urging the community to sign the petition, which seeks to: Strengthen bail laws to prevent violent young offenders from reoffending; Provide additional resources and support for police to effectively apprehend and prosecute offenders; and Review the judicial system to ensure community safety is prioritised. Global solar business ib vogt has held the first round of community information sessions for the proposed solar farm north of Deepwater. Senior Development Manager, Terry Daly, led discussion about the project, outlining the scope and design as well as fielding questions from local residents. Sessions were held on Thursday 30th January at the Highlands Hub in Glen Innes and the Deepwater School of Arts Hall. The Deepwater session attracted more than 20 people. The local organizing committee (headed by Richard Sturtridge) is full of praise for the golfers, prize donors and the Glen Innes community for their efforts which recently raised more than $10,000, with $8,000 to be presented to the sHedway mental health program and the balance being retained to support next year's event and other fundraising activities. The Cec Judge Jug is a New England District Golf Association (NEDGA) competition for district wide golfers. Typically, between 60 and 90 golfers come from many areas in the New England to enjoy a day at the beautiful Glen Innes Golf Club (GIGC). This 4 ball par competition tees off at 10am on Sunday 9th February, with a presentation to the winning pair around 1-2pm.
