Local Cane Toad Sighting Reported

Glen Innes Severn Council has been alerted to a report of a cane toad (Rhinella marina) sighting within the local area. Authorities from the NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) and Northern Tablelands Local Land Services are collaborating with the individual who reported the sighting, as well as local businesses, to ensure biosecurity measures are in place to conduct inspections. Cane toads pose a significant threat to ecosystems and communities. They can spread by hiding in freight, green waste, and timber, potentially establishing new populations. This year's event was postponed due to unsuitable track conditions following heavy rainfall. The Australian honey bee industry is under increasing pressure from drought, floods, bushfires, and limited access to public lands. As a result, private farmland is emerging as a valuable resource for honey production. One promising but often overlooked option is pasture legumes—plants that support livestock and are a rich source of nectar and pollen for honey bees. The Clover4Bees pilot study, funded by AgriFutures Australia, explored how pasture legumes could benefit honey bees. No golf on Wednesday last week due to the wet weather and the course being closed. Veterans Golf A good field of 25 players competed for the Monthly Medal which is a stroke event. Winner was Glen Fairclough with a 72 from Robert Bruce with a 74. Nearest the pins were Glen Fairclough on the 4th and the Pro Pin on the 12th went to Peter Tough. Police Seek Witnesses to Two-Vehicle Crash on New England Highway

New England Police are calling for witnesses following a two-vehicle collision on the New England Highway near Grafton Street, Glen Innes, yesterday morning. Emergency services responded to the incident at around 11 am, where they found a Toyota utility had overturned and landed on its roof after colliding with a Toyota SUV. The occupants of the ute, a 61-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman, sustained minor cuts and were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being transported to Armidale Hospital for further care.
