Glen Innes Severn Council is proposing an expansion of its Access Bus service in a bid to improve transport options for older residents living in the villages of Deepwater, Emmaville, Glencoe and Red Range. Currently operated through Council’s Life Choices – Support Services (LC-SS) program under the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP), the Access Bus provides eligible residents in Glen Innes with regular transport to essential services and community activities. Repairs to the New England Highway are set to commence next week following extensive damage caused by increased traffic after recent flooding across New South Wales. The record-breaking floods that impacted the NSW coast last week forced the redirection of traffic to the New England Highway. Cricketers in Glen Innes now have access to improved training facilities following the completion of upgrades to the cricket nets at the Glen Innes Indoor Sports Centre. The project, funded through the Australian Government’s Black Summer Bushfire Recovery (BSBR) Glen Innes Indoor Sports Centre Stage Three initiative, included a range of enhancements to the indoor cricket area, with a total project value of $124,178. They became the recipients of letters and cards from a number of public figures, including the King and Queen, celebrating this significant moment in their lives. Francis James Wilson and Elaine Gwendoline Wilson (nee Sweeney) met at rock n roll practice at the Presbyterian Church and later got engaged. Ashton's Circus will be at the Glen Innes Showgrounds on the 6th, 7th and 8th of June. Ashton's Circus is Australia’s oldest circus family, and with a history spanning 174 years, they are truly adept at showcasing their circus skills. Currently Ashton's has three different shows touring Australia. The one coming to Glen Innes is headed by seventh generation circus performer, Chantel Ashton-Rodriguez. Deepwater celebrates community and volunteer groups Around one hundred people attended Deepwater’s first Community & Volunteer Expo on Saturday May 10, with Deepwater Hall chair Mary Hollingworth declaring the event “a stellar success”. Originally conceived as a showcase of work by the Deepwater Sewing & Quilting Group, the expo quickly grew into a whole-community event with representatives from almost every local volunteer group and community organisation in attendance.
