Great Global Greyhound Walk 2025

The Great Global Greyhound Walk (GGGW) is an annual dog-walking event that brings together sighthounds and their owners to raise awareness of sighthounds as pets. Beginning as the Great British Greyhound Walk in 2010, it expanded over time to involve other sighthounds and become a global event. In 2024, a total of 13,383 sighthounds walked at 511 events in 42 countries around the world. In addition to the relatively well-known greyhounds, whippets and Italian greyhounds, the sighthounds category also includes lurchers, deerhounds, wolfhounds, salukis, Afghan hounds, borzois and the Spanish galgos podencos, and Ibizan hounds. The Glen Innes Huskies are preparing to launch their 2025 touch football season, with strong growth in player numbers and representative honours highlighting the sport’s rapid rise in the region. St Joseph’s Students Excel in Brain Olympia and Athletics

St Joseph’s students have recently achieved success across academic and sporting competitions. On Monday 11 August, three teams from St Joseph’s travelled to Inverell to take part in Brain Olympia, joining a total of ten teams from Warialda, Guyra, Inverell and Glen Innes. The Pink and Orange teams from St Joseph’s were awarded equal first place, while the Yellow team finished in fourth. Only six members of the Social Club took to the back nine on Sunday, with the course still very boggy in parts. The day’s winner was Col Fletcher, finishing with a nett score of 19.5. There were no runners-up on this occasion. Col also impressed on the greens, recording just 12 putts across the nine holes – helped along by a couple of chip-ins. Well done, Fletch! Netballer Mia Watson is in her second year with the NIAS Netball program and was recently presented with the Most Dedicated Award, recognising her commitment, determination, and work ethic on and off the court. Mother and daughter martial artists Karen and Isobel King represented their local dojo, Jin Ryu Kan, at the National World Koshiki Karatedo Federation (WKKF) Karate Championships in Brisbane on 6 April, returning home with a string of strong results and national rankings. Isobel King competed in two kata divisions and two kumite (fighting) divisions. Kata, a set sequence of karate movements performed with precision, was her first event. Despite facing more highly ranked competitors, including both boys and girls, she delivered flawless performances and placed 4th and 5th in her divisions.
