Glen Innes Athletes Shine at Northern Inland Academy of Sport

Two young Glen Innes athletes have been recognised for their achievements through the Northern Inland Academy of Sport (NIAS) in 2025. Netballer Mia Watson is in her second year with the NIAS Netball program and was recently presented with the Most Dedicated Award, recognising her commitment, determination, and work ethic on and off the court. Fellow Glen Innes athlete Imogen Biddle is also in her second year with NIAS, training under the Future Stars (Athletics) program. The Glen Innes Tennis Club (GIDTA) were pleased to host the Glen Innes round of the JDS North West RMS series on Sunday 27th July.  There was an excellent turn out for the tournament with players from across the North West region. A community event will be held in Emmaville later this month for the official unveiling of Roobot, a metal kangaroo sculpture created by Queensland artist Mick Brown. A mobile health service aiming to “save local lives” will be visiting Glen Innes later this month, offering free health checks to the local community. The Rotary Men’s Health Education Rural Van (mherv), a project operated by the Rotary Club of Warners Bay in collaboration with local Rotary clubs and community organisations, will be stationed in Glen Innes on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 August 2025. A well-known Glen Innes landmark, known locally as “The Convent”, has been sold with an unconditional exchange of contracts. Principal of the selling agency Raine & Horne Rural Glen Innes, Nellie Hayes, said the sale met expectations under good conditions. The property attracted strong interest during the campaign, with more than 220 enquiries and 17 offers received. For the centenary of the Ben Lomond school in 1985 a committee of Tony Judge, Bill & Kate Every, Rose Coward, Sedge & Leonie Ormerod, and Patsy Fulloon compiled an excellent history of the area. Earliest pioneers up there were Thomas Perry who took up Ben Lomond station and Andrew Wauchope - Moredun. In the early 1880s a huge workforce of railway workers lived in tents along the route of the railway construction. A commemorative service was held on Monday at ANZAC Park in Glen Innes to mark Vietnam Veterans’ Day. Representatives from several organisations attended and laid wreaths in honour of those who served, including the RSL, Legacy, and Glen Innes Severn Council.
