The Glen Innes Red Cross has officially launched its 24th Annual Christmas Tree Exhibition at the Town Hall, and festive spirit is already filling the room. More than 50 trees are on display this year, each one an original, created by individuals, families, businesses, schools or community groups. The theme “Christmas Around the World” has inspired a wonderful mix of originality and artistry. Council Press Release Glen Innes Severn Council has endorsed a Mayoral Minute calling for simple, practical changes to the NSW planning system to speed up housing approvals and boost supply across the state. Council says two key bottlenecks are still holding up new homes, even after the passage of the Planning System Reforms Bill 2025 and the introduction of the 60-Day Deemed Approval Bill. The first is that basic, low-risk home builds still have to lodge a full Development Application (DA) and go through the same complex steps as a major commercial project. Glen Innes Severn Council has launched a new monthly initiative giving residents the chance to speak directly with Councillors and Council staff in a relaxed setting about issues affecting themselves and the wider community. The emphasis is intentionally informal, with the sessions—called Conversations with Councillors—held at the Highlands Hub once a month on a Thursday from 4pm to 6pm. Councillors attend when available, and at the third and most recent Conversation those present included Mayor Margot Davis, Deputy Mayor Carol Sparks, and Councillor Anne Vosper, with General Manager Bernard Smith also on hand to respond to questions and suggestions.
