An environmental corridor at the Glen Innes Waste Facility is set to be rehabilitated following the award of a $20,000 grant from the NSW State Government. The funding will support the reintroduction of native trees and plants to an area of land that was originally cleared in the 1960s to accommodate landfill operations. In 2017, access to the landfill was redirected, and remediation of the site commenced in 2021. Early mail deliveries to Glen Innes were spasmodic. James Martin was appointed first Postmaster in 1854. At the time roads were primitive and delivery of mail depended on the vagaries of the weather. When the mail did get to Glen Innes and was sorted Martin blew a bugle to let people know to collect their letters. Prior to this a post office had been established at Wellingrove in 1849 - mail was delivered by a man riding and leading a packhorse. A permanent bench honouring the late Jan Sharman OAM has been unveiled outside Glen Innes Hospital, commemorating her decades of service to the local community. Ms Sharman, who passed away last year, was a long-standing and highly respected member of the Glen Innes Branch of the United Hospital Auxiliary. She held several roles within the organisation, including president, patron and life member.
