Glen Innes Severn Council has announced a major milestone in the journey to bring the New England Rail Trail to fruition, with the signing of a licence agreement with NSW's Transport Holding Entity through its contractor, UGL. This agreement grants the Council access to the rail corridor, enabling critical survey and investigative work needed to progress the project. After nearly a year of negotiations with UGL, the agreement now authorises the Council to enter the corridor and carry out site-specific investigations. Glen Innes was host to the Retreat Caravan Owners Club over the last week. A total of 31 caravans and 61 visitors from NSW, Victoria, Queensland and even WA, gathered at the Showground for a week of social activities and exploration of the area. The group meet on a regular basis, usually three times per year, with a preference to spend their time in small country towns and rural areas. Glen Innes Severn Council has commissioned an independent, qualified arborist to conduct detailed assessments of local trees to enhance public safety and ensure the health of urban green spaces. This assessment has covered prominent areas across Glen Innes, including Church Street, the Main Centre, Centennial Parklands, Glen Innes Cemetery, King George Park, King Edward Park, Glen Innes Skate Park, Emmaville RSL Park, Veness Park, and ANZAC Park. Glen Innes’s own champion lawn bowler, Paul Jopson, has returned in triumph from the Australian National Titles held in Tweed Heads from 11-15th October.  As a member of the New South Wales team, he came away with a second in the men’s competition and with best performed state (men and women combined). Paul stated that it was a “totally awesome team event”, and he’s looking forward to the 2025 National Titles to be held in Tasmania.
