Glen Innes was blanketed in snow over the weekend with significant snowfall occurring in parts of the Northern Tablelands. According to the State Emergency Service, some areas in the region recorded up to 50 mm of snow. While Glen Innes is no stranger to winter chills and the occasional dusting of snow, accumulations of this scale are rare. The snow created picturesque scenes across town but also brought with it disruption to travel and local activities. Council to Decide on Revised 48.3% Rate Rise

Glen Innes Severn Council will consider a revised Special Rate Variation (SRV) proposal at its meeting on 19 June. The revised recommendation follows a six-week community engagement process, “Shaping Tomorrow”, which closed on 6 June 2025. Financial Pressures Prompt Action The Council has reported significant financial pressure in its General Fund, forecasting an average annual operating deficit of $4.7 million from 2025/26 without a rate increase. To help address this, Council has implemented a series of savings measures, identifying more than $600,000 in efficiencies, reducing staff recruitment, and deferring some projects. Glen Innes Severn Council is proposing an expansion of its Access Bus service in a bid to improve transport options for older residents living in the villages of Deepwater, Emmaville, Glencoe and Red Range. Utility Collides with Cow on New England Highway

New England Police are investigating a collision between a utility vehicle and a cow on the New England Highway yesterday morning. Emergency services were called to the scene near Glencoe, south of Glen Innes, at approximately 6:30 am following reports that a utility had struck a cow. The driver, a 63-year-old man, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics. The cow was euthanised at the site of the incident. Inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the collision are ongoing.

Glencoe resident and musician, Matt Scullion, has been nominated for four awards at the Tamworth Country Music Festival in January 2025, two of them in the People’s Choice and two in the Tamworth Songwriter’s Association Awards. The nominations are for a song he wrote and recorded about Northern Territory icon, Ted Egan. From the age of 15 Nancy was a well-known and respected staff member of Fayle's Pharmacy, and played singles tennis as well. Mann River Bridge Re-Opens

The newly constructed Mann River Bridge on Mt Mitchell Road is now open to traffic, with final approach works completed last week. However, residents and commuters should prepare for a temporary closure later this month, as additional safety work is set to be carried out. The bridge will be closed from 25 November to 28 November to allow crews to install safety barriers and dismantle the temporary walkways used during construction.
