Being Different

Being different can be difficult at any age but is particularly challenging for a child.  That was the experience of Ron Webel, who as a child was bullied because of his serious stutter.  It not only impeded his ability to communicate but left him feeling very lonely amongst his peers. Ron is known around Glen Innes for his work with children and aged care residents.  He currently works as an education assistant and a bus driver at St. Josephs.  But for a long time he has wanted to write a book about his experience growing up. St Joseph’s Students Excel in Brain Olympia and Athletics

St Joseph’s students have recently achieved success across academic and sporting competitions. On Monday 11 August, three teams from St Joseph’s travelled to Inverell to take part in Brain Olympia, joining a total of ten teams from Warialda, Guyra, Inverell and Glen Innes. The Pink and Orange teams from St Joseph’s were awarded equal first place, while the Yellow team finished in fourth. Both winning teams will now progress to the next stage of the competition in Gunnedah on 27 August. Vietnam Veterans’ Day marked at ANZAC Park

A commemorative service was held on Monday at ANZAC Park in Glen Innes to mark Vietnam Veterans’ Day. Representatives from several organisations attended and laid wreaths in honour of those who served, including the RSL, Legacy, and Glen Innes Severn Council. Students Matt and Lara from St Joseph’s Primary School also took part in the ceremony, laying a wreath on behalf of their school.

Students Triumph at Toni Palmer Memorial Shield

Students from Years 3 to 6 at St Joseph’s Primary School travelled to Inverell on Wednesday 25 June to participate in the Toni Palmer Memorial Shield Rugby League competition. All students who took part represented their school with enthusiasm and sportsmanship, enjoying a day of competition and camaraderie. The senior team, made up of students from St Joseph’s Glen Innes, St Joseph’s Barraba, and St Mary of the Angels Guyra, came away with a hard-fought win in the final against Holy Trinity. St Joseph’s Students Shine at Primary Winter Trials

The Armidale Catholic Schools Primary Winter Trials were held in Armidale on Friday 28th March.  St Joseph’s Primary School had a number of students representing the school in Rugby League, Soccer and Netball.  All students played well in the wet conditions and enjoyed the day. A big congratulations to Sam Barratt and Jimmy Chard for being selected into the Diocesan team for Rugby League.  They will attend the Polding trials in Bathurst on 2nd May 25.

Following their school swimming carnival, twelve students from St Joseph's Primary School in Glen Innes travelled to Gunnedah on 28 February to represent their school in the Diocesan Swimming Carnival. The St Joseph’s Parents and Friends (P&F) Committee is inviting the community to a day of fun, fundraising, and friendly competition at the St Joseph’s Family Fun Golf Day.
