Girls in Trade Excursion to Inverell- GIHS

Girls in Trade Excursion to Inverell- GIHS

On Monday 2nd December, 19 female year 8 and 9 students embarked on a day trip to Inverell to investigate trade jobs for women. We were warmly welcomed by 4 different businesses: Boss Engineering, Bindaree Beef, High Style Furniture and Sapphire Nutrition. The tours through the businesses were amazing and the girls were able to meet female workers and ask questions.  The team leaders and managers in all businesses were extremely encouraging of the girls working in trades and talked about not being able to hire enough females in their businesses. A big "thank you" should go to Mrs Ginny…

The Makers Shed Re-Opens in Deepwater

Local business The Makers Shed recently closed the doors at its Glen Innes location in order to relocate to Deepwater. After spending the past three months renovating the new premises, The Makers Shed is now open at 80 Tenterfield Street, Deepwater. We spoke with business owner Richard Moon about the renovation. GIN - So, what prompted the move to Deepwater? RM - Well we live in Deepwater, so it was mostly to be closer to home. A two minute commute is much more pleasant than a thirty minute one! Also, when the opportunity popped up to move to Deepwater we…

The Coffee Incident Celebrates 5 Years

The Coffee Incident Celebrates 5 Years

The Coffee Incident recently celebrated its fifth anniversary in its current iteration.  Holly Smith is amazed and grateful that she has now owned The Coffee Incident for five years.  She puts the success of the coffee shop down to a fantastic team (including the maintenance team), and the fantastic support from the Glen Innes community and the coffee shop regulars.  From this writer’s perspective, there’s something more in the mix. Holly has an engaging personality and a hospitality flair that draws staff and customers alike to her. Holly is Glen Innes born and bred.  When she returned from Uni, she…

Our History – Matron Bewley

Our History – Matron Bewley

Driving up Williams Street from Church Street (the New England Highway) you will notice at the top, as you turn right at the corner that there is a sign ‘Bewley Lane’. It is just a very short lane. Does anyone know why that name has been so honoured? Most of the names of our streets, avenues, lanes etc can be traced to prominent people and almost every thoroughfare, no matter how short, has now been given a name, mainly to assist Emergency Services etc. Early on it was politicians, and other such notables, then mayors etc, who were so honoured…
