Our splendid autumn colours are a great magnet for tourists and the planting project spearheaded by the late Bob Crothers to beautify the median strip on the southern highway approach to Glen Innes is much admired. One of many prior beautification schemes was ‘Menzies Avenue’. On August 24, 1935, the Glen Innes Examiner wrote “With the completion of the planting of trees at the South Park, Town Tennis Club and Grafton Road work will now commence at the Railway Station, an additional step in the campaign of the Town Beautification Committee”. On Sunday afternoon, 30th March, the New England Conservatorium of Music [NECOM] presented the first of three musical afternoons which form its Heritage Homestead Series 2025. Held in the old stables at Rosecroft, the home of Mike and Belinda Norton, the Homestead Series celebrates the architectural heritage of the Glen Innes district with concerts that feature musicians from the Conservatorium in Armidale. The musicians performing at Rosecroft were Hester Wright, soprano, Joanna Fairs-Wu, violin, Robert Manley, violoncello, and Matthew Ardern, harpsichord and pianoforte. Glen Innes Public School Players Excel at Paul Kelly Cup

On Wednesday 26th March, the Glen Innes Public School AFL team competed in the Paul Kelly Cup in Inverell against teams from Inverell Public School and Newling Public School. In the first game, our boys came out with determination, winning against an Inverell Public team 5.4.34 to 0.0.0! In the second game, the boys were narrowly defeated by a second Inverell Public team; 3.2.20 to 2.0.12. Our third game was against Inverell Public again and the boys got up 5.2.33 to 2.0.12. St Joseph’s Students Shine at Primary Winter Trials

The Armidale Catholic Schools Primary Winter Trials were held in Armidale on Friday 28th March.  St Joseph’s Primary School had a number of students representing the school in Rugby League, Soccer and Netball.  All students played well in the wet conditions and enjoyed the day. A big congratulations to Sam Barratt and Jimmy Chard for being selected into the Diocesan team for Rugby League.  They will attend the Polding trials in Bathurst on 2nd May 25.

Centennial Parklands to Receive New Picnic Shelter

Residents and visitors to Glen Innes will soon have an upgraded picnic shelter to enjoy at Centennial Parklands, thanks to a $44,000 grant from the New South Wales Government. The funding, provided through the Local Small Commitment Allocation (LSCA) program, will support the replacement of the ageing picnic shelter with a modern and accessible facility. The LSCA program aims to enhance local communities by supporting a range of initiatives, including park and playground upgrades, events, and essential services. Member for Northern Tablelands, Brendan Moylan, recently visited Centennial Parklands to inspect the current shelter and highlighted the importance of the project.…

Investigation Into Death Of Child Continues

Investigation Into Death Of Child Continues

An investigation is continuing into the death of a child at a home in Glen Innes on the weekend. About 6.40am (Sunday 30 March 2025), emergency services were called to a home on Hunter Street, Glen Innes, after an 11-month-old boy was found unresponsive. NSW Ambulance paramedics took the child to Glen Innes Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. While not being treated as suspicious, an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death is now being conducted by detectives attached to New England Police District. A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
