The local Australia Day festivities begin this year with a free breakfast being served at Pinkett Hall from 8am, followed by free morning tea at Glen Innes & District Services Club in Glen Innes from 10:30am. After morning tea, the morning at the Services Club continues with official ceremonies and award presentations from 11:30am. There are a number of awards being presented on the day. Glen Innes Severn Council Moves Forward with FOGO Collection Service

Glen Innes Severn Council plans to introduce a food organics and garden organics (FOGO) collection service. This initiative aligns with the NSW Government's objectives to reduce organic waste sent to landfill by 50% and achieve net-zero emissions from landfill organics by 2030. In April 2024, Glen Innes Severn Council received $145,500 through the NSW Government’s FOGO grants program. This funding will assist the Council in implementing the FOGO service which will be part of its broader long-term Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy. Blue-Green Algae Alert Issued for Beardy Waters

Water NSW has issued a red alert warning for blue-green algae in Beardy Waters and Beardy Waters Weir. This naturally occurring seasonal issue affects untreated water and has implications for recreational use and livestock. The red alert warning advises against consuming untreated water from the affected areas, as boiling does not remove algae toxins. Recreational activities such as swimming, canoeing, and fishing should also be avoided until the alert is lifted. Appeal To Locate Man Missing From Glen Innes

Police are appealing for assistance to locate a man missing from the state’s north-west. Jordie Zarro, aged 27, was last seen about 6pm on Wednesday (15 January 2025) at a licensed premises on Grey Street, Glen Innes. When he could not be located or contacted, officers attached to New England Police District were notified and commenced inquiries into his whereabouts. Police and family hold concerns for Jordie’s welfare. He is described as being of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance, about 175cm – 180cm tall, of thin build, with dark curly/scruffy hair. Friday’s storm The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has been forecasting  it for days, the hope of a few mm here a few mm there … but little showers have skirted by Glen without anything to show.
