A Local Update From Brendan Moylan MP

Glen Innes High School annual presentation Following the catch-up with the councillors, I went to Glen Innes High School for their annual presentation. It was excellent to see such a large number of students and teachers recognised for their contributions in the classroom as well as on the sporting field and in the arts areas. Council catch-up It was good to gather with Glen Innes Severn Shire Councillors last week to discuss important issues and concerns from across the Glen Innes Local Government Area. We also discussed the best ways moving forward to grow the area and what options are…

Another Successful Year for Hellie’s Toy Drive

Members of the Glen Innes Highlands Lioness Lions Club have again been busy bringing joy to the lives of disadvantaged Glen Innes families. Coordinator, Lion Leonie Lee, organised collection boxes for donations of new toys and books. These were left at key points around Glen Innes, including Glen Innes West Infants School, Glen Innes Public School, Glen Innes High School, Carrells Toy Store and Services NSW. Girls in Trade Excursion to Inverell- GIHS

On Monday 2nd December, 19 female year 8 and 9 students embarked on a day trip to Inverell to investigate trade jobs for women. We were warmly welcomed by 4 different businesses: Boss Engineering, Bindaree Beef, High Style Furniture and Sapphire Nutrition. The tours through the businesses were amazing and the girls were able to meet female workers and ask questions.  The team leaders and managers in all businesses were extremely encouraging of the girls working in trades and talked about not being able to hire enough females in their businesses. A big "thank you" should go to Mrs Ginny…

Students And Teachers Face Off At Reunion

Three former Glen Innes High School teachers were joined by almost 60 former students from the 1967-1972 era when they gathered in Glen Innes for a reunion on the weekend (November 9 and 10). For more than 6 months a small group of former students including Bill Liston, Jenny Smith, Ken Kempton, David Clarke, Colin Walker and Graham Duck, were playing private detective in efforts to track down, contact and invite their past classmates to the weekend’s activities. Their job was made all the more difficult because they were working from old school records and other sources which were pre-internet…
